5-Week Welding and Metal Fabrication Training
This program is for students entering grades 11 or 12 who have attended a previous camp at IAI or are a beginning welder.
Develop skills in welding safety, oxy-fuel and plasma cutting, gas metal arc welding, and metal fabrication.
Explore careers available in the Welding and Metal Fabricating Industry.
Opportunity to earn a AWS (American Welding Society) credential.
Students have the chance to apply for earn-while-you-learn pay during this experience.
Beyond mastering essential welding skills, participants will engage in a variety of enriching activities to enhance their overall readiness for the workforce. These include:
Safety workshops with the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA)
Financial Literacy Seminars
Employability skill development, including resume building
Apprenticeship seminar
Business immersion trips

How it works:
Step 1: To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:
High school junior or senior status in the Fall 2024
Residency within the COP District
Must have reliable transportation
Clothing requirements for safety: Long sleeve cotton shirt, jeans with no rips or frays, high cotton socks. Leather work boots required; steel-toed boots preferred.

Step 3: Attend Mandatory Interview and Informational Session on June 3, 2024 at 6:30p at the Industrial Arts Institute, Onaway, MI.
